The building in presence is installed on Junqueira, near the CUF Santa Maria de Belém Clinic, and results from the challenge launched by José de Mello Residências e Serviços S.A., in the scope of the action “Housing for the Elderly People”, for the creation of a single space capable to join two types of different ways of living: Assisted Life and Independent Life.

As a concept these spaces are faced separately in physical terms though, in reality, both profit from common services provided by the same entity.

The proposal is therefore based on the creation on individualized schemes of living, translated by the materialization of two different bodies that melt and intersect with each other, connecting in space specific volumes and materials for each one of them.

The specific configuration of the lot and the direct confront with the consolidated aid maintained pre-existence are responsible for the conception of a polygon closed over itself, space container, which facades are the sole element of transition between the proposed reality and the immediate surrounding. This transition is perpetuated and stimulated by the crossing of a language that privileges mutation and diversity as principles for the intervention.

To the two volumes, marked in height and twin by horizontal crossing of the concrete slabs of each one of the floors the they enclosed, is associated a formal abstraction which values the whole through the manipulation of full and voids, regulated by a strong metrics and emphasized by the selected materials: stone, wood, concrete and glass.
