The building in presence is located on the south area of Parque das Nações, near Descobertas’ Hospital, and is based on the creation of different spaces for the Assisted Life and for the Independent Life, in the scope of the action “Housing for the Elderly” promoted by José de Mello Residências e Serviços S.A.

The proposal distinguishes the creation of two materially and volumetrically different blocks which relation is established trough a vertical element in limestone that joins the main access nucleus for the two intended functions (autonomously made by Rua dos Argonautas – Independent Life – and by Rua da Jangada de Pedra – Assisted Life).

As a direct consequence of the Plan that comprehends this whole area and of the initial programmatic specifications, the building defines an implantation polygon limited by four streets close from each other and develops vertically on eleven floors above the platform where it “rests”.

Like the other units from the same group and as a concept, the base materials of composition are maintained, here applied in order to emphasize the abstraction and mutation of the volumes: limestone, wood panels, cement fibre panels, glass and natural concrete.

As a premise, the interior rigid and necessary functional division should not be perceptible at the object’s level, the five first floors are, therefore, destined to Assisted Life (an autonomous fraction) and the rest of the floors are specified for Independent Life (other forty fractions) – promoting individualized and different schemes of living.

The cover is, here, assumed as a living space, to contemplate, in close bounding with the river and with the surrounding under-construction urban mesh.
